I’m Not Crying
Joy and heartbreak on every page. Especially the last. The human experience on full display in ways we can ALL relate to.
Left Me Thinking Long After
This one really surprised me. I started reading during a quiet weekend and couldn’t put it down. The storyline felt oddly relevant, like it was speaking to stuff we’re dealing with now. I found myself reflecting on a few scenes even days later. It’s not your typical sci-fi read—it’s deeper, but still super readable. I love when a book messes with your expectations in a good way, and this definitely did that for me.
Highly recommend it

Silverbirds is an emotional and relatable book that is a tale of survival. This well-written page turner leaves a lasting impression long after the last page. A must read!
Silver Birds is a complex and often lyrical telling of a war
Rocky Magaña's book, Silver Birds is a complex and often lyrical telling of a war as seen through the eyes of Kosha, a young boy from the middle east. The style of the work is very dream-like and very reflective of the horrors of war. It is somewhat unsettling when you view the actions in wartime from the viewpoint portrayed in the book. Thought provoking and disturbing. I shed a tear over the poem after Kosha's last words in the book.
This book is beautifully written. Every sentence is rich with emotions. Kosha's journey is both heart breaking and also inspiring. The author did a good job in describing the land of the silverbirds. It feels like a mix of myth and nightmare, something between a ruined battlefield and a forgotten prophecy. This is worth picking up.
great book
When war takes everything from him, Kosha is left with only his bow, his silence, and a past that won’t let go. He moves through a world that has already burned, searching for something more than survival—something that will make it all mean something. A poetic, powerful story of resilience, loss, and reckoning, Silverbirds is perfect for readers who love deep, immersive storytelling and characters who refuse to be broken.
blends elements of fantasy with the harsh realities of conflict
This novel masterfully blends elements of fantasy with the harsh realities of conflict, creating a narrative that is both otherworldly and deeply human. The author paints vivid landscapes and complex emotions with equal skill, immersing the reader in Kosha's world from the very first page. The imagery of the fire-breathing silverbirds adds a unique and haunting element to the already rich tapestry of the story. This book is highly recommended for fans of lyrical fantasy, post-apocalyptic fiction, and character-driven narratives.

This is a profoundly moving and brilliantly crafted novel that will resonate deeply with readers seeking a powerful and challenging experience.
A War Story Unlike Any Other
The main character is just a boy, but he carries the weight of generations. His father's wisdom, his mother's grief, the absence of his brother. And above it all, the silverbirds. Watching. Waiting. This isn't a usual war novel. There are no battle plans or politics - just survival. Just the aftermath. One boy walking through the wreckage, trying to understand what's left.
Haunting
Rocky Magaña’s Silverbirds is a haunting, lyrical tale of war, loss, and vengeance. Kosha, the last remnant of a shattered bloodline, walks a wasteland haunted by fire-breathing silverbirds and the ghosts of his past. Armed with only a bow and the weight of his family’s choices, he must decide whether he is their final survivor or last casualty. Magaña’s prose is both brutal and poetic, weaving a gripping story of grief, defiance, and fate. This is a powerful journey into the heart of inherited battles and the cost of revenge. A stunning, thought-provoking fantasy.
Certainly an interesting read.
This book is rather dark and brooding, but in a good way? When you're reading about such a disastrous future, you expect the worst and this book doesn't disappoint. There are hints of "The Road" in here, and that's high praise indeed. This isn't a feel good coming of age story, this is a crawling out of hell on your hands and knees and never giving up slug fest. This is Dante's Inferno without the love interest, but keeping the redemption arc. It's worth reading.
Powerful writing
Rocky Magaña’s writing is poetic and sharp, capable of evoking desolate landscapes and inner battles with rare intensity. Kosha is an unforgettable protagonist, a boy torn between the weight of revenge and the desire to change his fate. The book explores the pain of loss, the burden of family legacy, and the brutality of survival in a difficult world. A powerful and moving read, perfect for those looking for a story that leaves a lasting impression.
Great read!
A war story told in a much different way that will stay with you long after you put it down. The writing is raw and poignant and the author brings you into the story as if you were there.
