Rocky Magaña's book, Silver Birds is a complex and often lyrical telling of a war as seen through the eyes of Kosha, a young boy from the middle east. The style of the work is very dream-like and very reflective of the horrors of war. It is somewhat unsettling when you view the actions in wartime from the viewpoint portrayed in the book. Thought provoking and disturbing. I shed a tear over the poem after Kosha's last words in the book.

This book is beautifully written. Every sentence is rich with emotions. Kosha's journey is both heart breaking and also inspiring. The author did a good job in describing the land of the silverbirds. It feels like a mix of myth and nightmare, something between a ruined battlefield and a forgotten prophecy. This is worth picking up.
