A War Story Unlike Any Other
The main character is just a boy, but he carries the weight of generations. His father's wisdom, his mother's grief, the absence of his brother. And above it all, the silverbirds. Watching. Waiting. This isn't a usual war novel. There are no battle plans or politics - just survival. Just the aftermath. One boy walking through the wreckage, trying to understand what's left.
Haunting
Rocky Magaña’s Silverbirds is a haunting, lyrical tale of war, loss, and vengeance. Kosha, the last remnant of a shattered bloodline, walks a wasteland haunted by fire-breathing silverbirds and the ghosts of his past. Armed with only a bow and the weight of his family’s choices, he must decide whether he is their final survivor or last casualty. Magaña’s prose is both brutal and poetic, weaving a gripping story of grief, defiance, and fate. This is a powerful journey into the heart of inherited battles and the cost of revenge. A stunning, thought-provoking fantasy.
Certainly an interesting read.
This book is rather dark and brooding, but in a good way? When you're reading about such a disastrous future, you expect the worst and this book doesn't disappoint. There are hints of "The Road" in here, and that's high praise indeed. This isn't a feel good coming of age story, this is a crawling out of hell on your hands and knees and never giving up slug fest. This is Dante's Inferno without the love interest, but keeping the redemption arc. It's worth reading.
